No Strings Attached

Since 2004, Building Peaceful Families has offered programs that recognize the best in those who may not always see the best in themselves. Thanks to the vision of the late Superior Court Judge Sharon Chatman, thousands of people from different circumstances have discovered their value as members of their family and their community.

BPF programs have reached a broad spectrum of communities in the South Bay: from grandmothers raising their grandchildren, to dads leaving the criminal justice system, to women who have overcome odds to achieve success, to incarcerated women who just want to be heard – Building Peaceful Families has positively touched the lives of so many.

With the passing of Judge Chatman in 2020 and the disruption of our programs due to Covid, the BPF Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cease operations at the end of 2024.

But rather than focusing on any sadness we may feel, we want to celebrate 20 years of making a difference!

On August 10th, we will host the final Judge Sharon Chatman Memorial Red Rocks Challenge. The Red Rocks Challenge is the end-of-season internal race hosted by the Red Power Divas, a free running / walking group created in 2007 as one of BPF’s programs. For 17 years, RPD has encouraged people of all ages, sizes, and fitness levels to move at their own pace.

More information about the Red Rocks Challenge will be posted here and on Facebook at a later date, but please mark your calendars now. We hope EVERYONE will join us on August 10th to celebrate an amazing woman and the organization that is her legacy.

With gratitude,

The Board of Building Peaceful Families

Julie, Robyn, Maria, Teresa, Priscilla, Jesse and Jody
